If your car, SUV, or truck has special meaning to you, you may opt to replace the engine rather than buy a new vehicle. We understand this desire at our shop, which is why we rebuild and replace engines. Unfortunately, if you are having any of the problems listed below, your engine may need to be replaced or rebuilt. Let’s talk more about this and how we can help.
Excessive Exhaust
Sometimes, older engines start to hemorrhage automotive fluids and this creates a ton of exhaust that flows out of the tailpipe. We can resolve the problem by finding the fluid leak and rebuilding that part of the engine. The color of the exhaust reveals the fluid that is leaking out of the engine. Black exhaust means fuel, white exhaust means coolant, and blue exhaust means oil.
Excessive Knocking
We may also have to rebuild your engine to resolve excessive knocking. If the knocking is caused by worn-out rod bearings, we need to rebuild the engine to replace them. Specifically, we need to rebuild the cylinder block. We recommend that you have this service done as soon as possible because the knocking that you hear is caused by the pistons crashing against the cylinders.
Excessive Overheating
We recommend that you avoid driving your vehicle if the engine overheats every time that you operate it. This can be a sign that the cooling system needs to be replaced. It can also be a sign that the cooling system needs to be rebuilt. If the problem is in the cooling system, you’ve brought a cracked engine block, exhaust manifold, or head gasket.
Metal-Filled Oil
Now, we are going to discuss the instances when the engine must be replaced. The first instance is metal in the motor oil. The metal shavings are literally the parts dissolving into the oil as it circulates through the engine. In other words, your engine is disintegrating. As you can imagine, we can fix this problem. Rather, we have to replace the engine.
Zero Power
Another instance when the engine needs to be replaced as if it is no longer able to produce power and there is no obvious reason for the problem. This is a sign that the engine is done; it’s reached the end of its life. Consequently, we will need to replace it.
